Root Canal Treatment (RCT) is treatment of the “Root Canals “ of the tooth in which the decay/caries/cavity has reached the deepest layer of the tooth called “Pulp”. Root Canal is the area where Pulp is located in the Tooth.
Root Canal Treatment is required in the following scenarios :
Dental Microscope magnifies the tooth up to 25 times so that everything is very clear and hence, we can visualize it and treat it completely leading to successful Root Canal Treatments.
increased visibility leads to increased success of treatment. With the microscope we can see till the end of the root canal of the tooth.
they help us to see the root anatomy clearly without much radiation dosage.
electronic devices which are used to determine the root apex with total accuracy.
the root canal disinfection is done by ultrasonic waves using special equipment.
Root canals are filled with the latest warm condensation technique to ensure 3-D seal of the canals.
they are a part of the hi-tech rotary root canal system which ensures complete cleaning of the root canal unlike the traditional hand method.
Uses LASER to disinfect the Root Canals.
That is the reason our family of patients has been continuously increasing since 2004
It is not painful, since the major portion of the treatment is done under local anaesthesia and medicines (painkillers) take care of the minor pain after the procedure. Sometimes even the painkillers are not required.
Root canal treatment can be completed in 1 or 2 appointments but if the infection is very severe it might require 2-3 appointments more. Patients’ cooperation is a must for early completion of the root canal treatment.
Contrary to popular belief, root canal treatment cleans up the tooth. It is not the treatment that weakens the tooth, but the infection inside the tooth which has already weakened it.
Most of the times when a patient turns up for RCT, a major portion of the tooth has been eaten up. The idea behind capping is to reinforce the tooth so that after RCT you can chew with your tooth normally without any fear of breakage of the tooth. But if timely treatment is done and a major portion of the tooth structure is left, then we can go ahead with RCT and a normal filling of any type.
It is always better to save the natural tooth because no artificial replacement can be as satisfactory as the natural tooth.

Like all medical fields in dentistry also technological advancement ensures greater treatment success. We have added these newest technologies to canals.
Antibiotics and painkillers cannot treat the source of infection. They can only limit the infection and reduce pain for some time. The source of infection is the infected tooth which needs to be cleaned up.
Kindly understand -RCT is done when the infection or cavity or decay in the tooth has already reached into the deeper softer part of the tooth called as pulp-which mainly comprises blood vessels and nerves.
A filling is done when the decay has not reached into the pulp.
So both these procedures are not interchangeable. There are clear cut guidelines when each needs to done and whatever is indicated should be done for your own benefit.
