When Gums are healthy , they prevent any communication between the oral cavity and the bone thus preventing the bone from bacteria of the oral cavity. This makes it critical to maintain the health of Gums . The main cause of Gum Disease is Plaque – the white sticky substance that sticks to your teeth. It is mainly made of food debris & bacteria . bacteria in the plaque cause Toxins. These toxins can irritate the gums, tissues, as well as bones supporting the teeth.
Stages of Gum Diseases
Gingivitis
- This is the first stage and the infection is limited to the Gums. In Gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and bleed . This causes little or no discomfort or pain and hence people avoid treatment .

Periodontitis

Flap Surgery / Pocket Reduction Surgery
This one of the most effective ways to treat gum disease. In this procedure, gums are lifted back and plaque is removed. It works better for smoothening of damaged bone & to restrict the area of disease-causing bacteria.

This is a very common myth. Scaling only removes the tartar from the teeth .
Sensitivity can be caused if the Ultrasonic machine that is used for scaling is of cheap quality leading to removal of the outer layer of teeth .These cheap machines are usually used to cut down costs of the treatment .
You might be cleaning your teeth twice but are you sure you are doing it effectively? There are areas in your mouth which you are not able to see. So although you might be brushing twice, these areas might not be getting cleaned at all. Whenever you eat something a soft film called “Plaque” starts accumulating on and in between your teeth. This plaque is nothing but a collection of microorganisms. Within 24 hours it starts hardening and gets converted to Tartar or “Calculus”. Now this tartar, how efficiently you brush will not be removed by normal brushing .That is why we always suggest you to brush twice daily so that you are able to clean the plaque before it gets converted into the tartar stage.
